BIG UPDATE!

Wow! It has been way too long since I have updated my blog. Plenty has happened since my last post. Let's just get it out of the way. Ummmmmm, hmmmmmm, wellllllll, uhhhhhhhh, you seeeeeee, OKAY, I WAS CAREER CHANGED! Released, rejected, whatever you want to call it. Unfortunately, I am not the right dog to become a Guide Dog. Guide Dogs are exceptionally well behaved, and I just could not stay still or quiet. Which meant going to church was really hard, and so were the board meetings, oh yes, and class, and all of the elementary schools. I made many people uncomfortable, and I also made people laugh at my antics. When it comes right down to it, I got an "F" for Forever Dog. I am now the proud Owner of Tina and Brian. Yes I said that right. That's what I like to think anyway. My Raisers/Owners have been so patient with me. I'm still working on obedience, and learning to be still and quiet. I have a long way to go.

BUT!!! I have help now. Do you know what my Owner's did? They got another dog! YES! I have a playmate. His name is Baron, and he was born in April at Guide Dogs of America, and he is now 15 weeks old. He came to live with us when he was 7 weeks old. We play every day, and he has helped me to settle. Baron is the calmest dog I have ever met, and nothing bothers him, not even me :) He gets to wear the yellow jacket now, and be the Puppy in Training of the house. I really like having him around. At first, I thought, "When is he going home?" I thought he was just visiting, but now I know he's here to be my buddy for awhile, and I get to be his Big Brother.

There were many other siblings in my litter from Guide Dogs of America. If I were still a Puppy in Training, I would have to be turned in on Saturday back to Guide Dogs of America for Formal Training. Baron went to a Guide Dogs of America Graduation last Sunday and saw my litter mate Westin. I wish Westin and all of the "W's" the best in Formal Training, and congratulations on your next step to becoming a Guide.

As for me, I'll still continue my blog, and you can also follow raising Baron on Facebook. His page is Bringing Up Baron.

  1. Oh Winter thanks for sharing your story! I too was cc'd from GDA. I loved going out and everywhere and I always behaved. At home my mom says I do the "crazy dance". I was released due to a medical condition...but it does not stop me from being an awesome dog! I think I need a friend like Baron! My name is Fergie and I just turned one in June!

  2. Hi Winter! I didn't know you were blogging. Stetson was career changed because he was too soft and Derby because he got too anxious in new situations.

  3. Congratulations Winter!! Your brother WayVer has also returned to take care of his Puppy Raiser's. He was "stressed to the max" between the "turn in" date of 8/7 and 8/16. His PR's got the call at 2:38 and left Florence, MT by 5, drove straight through and completed the family by 11:30 on 8/17 (that's 1200 miles in 20 hours). WayVer will get ready this winter and join his Sister, Younger as a certified Therapy Dog in the spring. Please note: they didn't fail, they tried but things happen for a reason.

    1. Hi WayVer's family! How are you doing? I see Guide Wyatt all of the time and he is doing a great job guiding for Peggy here in California. Westin is also guiding.
